Henriet, I and another friend Mary, just led a Saturday morning women's retreat. I enjoy planning and leading retreats because they require a lot of creative energy to develop, setup and present. Most of the retreats that we develop for women have one main goal. That goal being - time spent together in conversation.
Don't get me wrong, we always have a specific theme with a message to share, lesson to teach and an idea to develop. But, we have found that at the core of all that we do, the one thing we always have to make sure of, is that we create is a safe place for participants to have a conversation. A chance to talk, share stories, concerns, and thoughts. Most importantly, to share without interference from the fast paced, technology based world around us.
We work hard to create a welcoming space with decorations and good food. A place, that when the people enter, they know we cared enough to make our time together special. A place where people will feel comfortable sharing, and that they feel accepted even if they just want to listen. A very special place where they feel valued. A place where the Spirit can work, touching hearts and opening minds.
If I am honest, I think sometimes our participants learn more from their sharing with each other than we can ever teach them from our lecturing up front. The time that they spend, in the community we are able to create, is time well spent for all of us.
I invite you to select a few people, find a special spot and take some time to share your stories, experiences, fears. Take time to care for each other. If you would like some conversation starters, just let me know. I would be happy to share some.
I would love to hear what you experience when you do!
