Today’s verse: Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”
This verse basically sums up Lent for me. It is a time for me to focus on cleaning out all of the clutter in my life, wherever that clutter may be. A time for me to take a look inward and see all of the garbage that I hold onto and all of the thoughts and feelings that keep piling inside my mind and heart. I always say I will get to it, but I never take the time to do so. I have taken to making excuses, so that I don’t have to face them, to a new high. Is that the life that God created me for?
NO! This is why the season of Lent is so important. A yearly time to help us claim the life we were meant to lead. To let go of that which stands in the way of pure, true, authentic worship of the most amazing piece of our lives, God.
We need to face and acknowledge our selfishness, our sin, our demons so that we can be free to celebrate the death and resurrection of our Christ. I believe this is a time to try to understand just some of the suffering that Christ experienced by taking a look inward and around us. A time for us to really take a good hard look of how we are suffering by all of the negativity, anger, judgement, and even hate that we are holding onto. Once we can name and define this, we can truly feel the attached emotions and find the peace that we are meant to hold in our hearts.
Join me this Lent in creating a clean heart, a fresh start and in helping to have a new and right Spirit inside of every part of my very being.
Peace,
