Today’s verse: Colossians 3:16 (msg)
“And sing, sing your hearts out to God!”
Music, such a small word that holds so much meaning, diversity and power. I LOVE music! All types of music. It can totally change my mood, both good and bad. It has the power to get me up and moving and to get me to sit and meditate. The Bible is full of songs. Songs of love and songs of victory, songs of loss and songs of life.
I enjoy the music from Taize worship as it is short and easy to sing and hum. Days after I attend a Taize service the songs from the service are rolling around in my head. I was at a worship service once where an amazing gospel singer and a jazz guitarist did a rendition of the song “Amazing Grace” that I will carry with me forever!
Many times I have used music to teach my children. The alphabet song, and School House Rocks songs are some examples. Which School House Rocks song is going through your head right now? I enjoy classical music, owing that to the experience of being a cellist from 4th grade through high school. One of the first things I learned about my husband was what music he liked to listen to. As our relationship progressed we kept sharing favorite music with each other.
I am a “Baby Boomer” music from the 60’s and 70’s is a part of my very being. I can remember my first record. It was a 45rpm and it was The Archies “Sugar Sugar”. Who of my era didn’t play “Born to be Wild” in their car after they first got their licenses. Just yesterday I heard a new song that blew me away. It so spoke to me I had to share it with friends and family.
Music can be freeing, calming, energizing, a way to worship, and a way to love. What are you listening to?
Today I encourage you to pull out some of your favorite music. Music from days long past or current favorites. Play it, listen to it, embrace the memories or feelings that you have.
Enjoy the how it touches you.
Play on!
